Adam Gase Has All The Power In New York
In just a few short months, New York Jets new head coach Adam Gase has seized complete control of the franchise. The announcement came down recently that the team had fired GM Mike Maccagnan, leaving Gase to call all the personnel shots. And to make sure no one could question Gase, the team fired vice president of player personnel Brian Heimerdinger, too.
According to reports, a rift formed between Gase and Maccagnan after the former GM signed Le'Veon Bell and C.J. Mosely to monster contracts. They became two of the highest paid players at their positions, but Gase would have preferred finding better values.
Jets CEO Christopher Johnson downplayed a possible rift, saying, "This is about more than one draft or one free agency, even two. As I educated myself about this process, it became more clear to me, the deeper I got in this building, that it was time for a change and a time to move on."
New York went 4-12 in 2018, and the team responded at the time by firing head coach Todd Bowles. Now Johnson is claiming that wasn't enough.
After a mediocre run as the Dolphins head coach, that puts a lot of pressure on the shoulders of Adam Gase. Do you think he can handle it?
