DT Norton To Receive Full Salary From Miami Dolphins
Kendrick Norton has been waived by the Miami Dolphins following a surgery that required his left arm to be amputated.
In waiving Norton, the team issued a non-football injury designation, placing Norton on the reserve/non-football injury list which allows Miami to pay the 22-year-old his full salary.
Norton was chosen by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft. He was signed to the Dolphins in December 2018 and was competing for a spot on the team's 53-man roster.
Norton was driving his Ford F-250 on a Florida highway on July 4 when he performed an improper lane change. His vehicle made contact with another vehicle before crashing into a concrete barrier.
Norton underwent at least six surgeries before he was released from the hospital last week.
"I just want to give a big thank-you, first of all, to God for me still being here. Second of all, to Jackson Medical Center. They did a great job. They took great care of me while I was in here," Norton said while being released from the hospital.
"Next, I would like to thank the Miami Dolphins family. They've been crazy with how much help they've been willing to give and, you know, they really didn't have to," he added.
Norton's medical bills will be covered by the insurance policies held by the NFL and the Miami Dolphins.
