The Wackiest, Weirdest, And Wildest Trophies In Sports Are Truly Something To Behold
Winning a big tournament or a single game can fill you with pride and joy. These trophies can then take that pride and joy and leave a lasting reminder of your win that you might want to hide in the closet. These are the ugliest and oftentimes most bizarre sports trophies that have been claimed by professional athletes.
The Chinese Grand Prix Trophy Is Super Extra
Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton of Britain took home the trophy at the 2014 Chinese Grand Prix and it's definitely a sight to behold. The trophy looks like it's part championship trophy and part art project that was created by a second-grader who didn't put much effort into the design process.
Either way, Hamilton won the trophy, and every single time he sees it he likely now thinks, "I'm a winner, I think."
The Mexican Open Trophy Is Not Edible Or Pleasing On The Eyes
Rafael Nadal of Spain took home the Mexican Open trophy in 2013 and it's something we're sure he'll love staring at for the rest of his life. Winners at this tournament are given a traditional Mexican mariachi hat before pictures are taken with their trophy.
Nadal seemed to enjoy the trophy and pretended to take a bit from the strange-looking avocado shaped symbol of his win. David Ferrer could have taken home this beauty but beating Nadal is no small feat of athletic prowess.
You'll Go Bananas Over This Tournament Prize
British cyclist Mark Cavendish won a stage at the 51st Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey in Antalya on April 26, 2015, and his trophy was a ton of delicious ripe looking bananas.
It might not be the prettiest tournament trophy but it's enough to ensure he keeps his potassium levels up for the rest of the 8 stage race that extends along the Turke Mediterranean and Aegean coasts that finishes in Istanbul.
This Trophy Rocks
Philippe Gilbert of Belgium and Team Deceuninck-QuickStep / Celebration took home this unique trophy after winning the 117th Paris-Roubaix, a 257-kilometer race that extends from Compiègne to Roubaix.
The trophy is exactly what it looks like, a giant stone that has been polished to give it a blue hue. The trophy was created by a local family-owned stonemason business. Winners get to take home their own smaller version of the trophy as a reminder of their victory.
It's Like A Picasso Only Stranger
Chris Robshaw, the captain of team England, is seen here raising a trophy after his team's victory during the QBE International match between England and Argentina in November 2013.
Your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, the trophy really does look like a Rugby ball was kicked into and became lodged inside of a combined Picasso painting and sculpture. Regardless, they won the match and took home this very unique trophy.
A Horserace And A Golden Slipper
The Golden Slipper is a trophy handed out to the winner of a horse race that occurs on Golden Slipper day at Royal Randwick Racecourse.
The trophy is such a big draw that even Nicole Richie couldn't help but stop to have her picture taken with it in 2015. The race occurs in Sydney, Australia. It's not an overly ugly trophy but the combination of a slipper and a horseshoe does seem a bit off. Oh yeah, the winner also takes home $2 million.
Come Sail Away With Me In This Trophy
Roger Federer staring at this monstrosity of a trophy he just won is exactly what we'd expect from anyone carrying around a sailing ship inspired prize.
This trophy is awarded to the winner of the Dubai Tennis Championship in the Gulf emirate of Dubai. Federer took home the prize in March 2019. It was a special day for Federer who claimed his 100th career title after defeating Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-4 and 6-4.
Cut The Competition Down To Become Immortalized OnThe Paul Bunyon Ax
In this photo, Wisconsin Badgers running back Dare Ogunbowale celebrates with the Big Ten West trophy alongside Paul Bunyan's Axe. His team defeated Minnesota 30-17 at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison Wisconsin on November 26th, 2016.
The two teams battle it out every year and they celebrate the rivalry by adding every final score to the ax handle. The winning college will often steal the ax and attempt to cut down their opponent's goalposts with it.
Tiger Woods Went Big Cat Crazy For His Tournaments Trophy
Rickie Fowler took home the Hero World Challenge trophy in 2007. The tournament was hosted in Albany, Bahamas. As you can see, the trophy features a big cat. It's practically impossible to look cool standing next to this CATastrophe.
There is a good reason for the trophy's design. The tournament is hosted by golfer Tiger Woods and it benefits his charity, The Tiger Woods Foundation. Why the Tiger is stroking a globe instead of a golf ball, we may never know.
The Omega Dubai Desert Classic Wants Athletes To Carry Around This Giant Trophy
Lucas Herbert of Australia took home this monstrosity of a trophy after winning the final round of the Omega Dubai Desert Classic at Emirates Golf Club on January 26, 2020.
We usually only see trophy's this big when entire teams are hoisting the grand prize above their head. This Dubai trophy isn't the first strange prize to come out of the country's many and growing tournaments. We personally wouldn't have the mantle space for this award.
The Australian Open Has A Trophy For Your Oversized Christmas Tree
In 2015 Peter Senior of Australia won this trophy after claiming victory following the final round of the Australian Masters at Huntingdale Golf Club.
Honestly, we're not sure if he's smiling because he won the tournament or he's realized the absurdity of the giant oversized Christmas ornament looking trophy he's holding in his hands. We have to wonder if any golfer who has claimed this title has accidentally dropped and broke the trophy.
The Tree Of Fanti Is Actually Pretty Cool
We still think the "Tree of Fanti" is a quirky take on a trophy but it's also super unique and something you could easily place above your fireplace as a focal point in almost any room.
In this photo, pro golfer Andy Murray was photographed in November 2016 after he won the Men's Singles final at the BNP Paribas Masters. Our only worry would be poking ourselves on the trophy while occasionally dusting it off.
A Trophy Only Spain Could Offer To A Champion
Michael Jonzon of Sweden is spotted here holding up the trophy for his win at the Castello Masters Costa Azahar tournament at the Club de Campo del Mediterraneo on October 25, 2009. The tournament is held in Castellon de la Plana, Spain.
Honestly, we don't even need to know the meaning behind this trophy. It's awesome and we want to take up golf just so we can own this quirky creation.
Another Middle East Trophy Creation We Can't Really Understand
Jorge Campillo of Spain is spotted in this photo after claiming the win during Day 4 play at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters at Education City Golf Club on in March 2020. The tournament takes place in Doha, Qatar.
Maybe it's a cultural thing but we can't spot why Middle East sports tournaments feature trophies that appear to have absolutely nothing to do with the sport they are supposed to represent.
This Trophy Looks Like An Alien Egg
Here we see Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand with the trophy she won following a 1st playoff hole victory at the final round of the Manulife LPGA Classic. The tournament takes place at Whistle Bear Golf Club in Cambridge, Canada.
Remember the good old days when a trophy featured something to do with the sport it was being awarded for. This trophy doesn't seem to represent golf in any way but it sure looks pretty.
Only The Best Trophy For The "Best Men's Player" Winner
Real Madrid's Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo was all smiles in this photo taken on August 24, 2017. Ronaldo took home the prize for the "Best Men's Player in Europe.
The headless trophy reminds us of those cutout displays that children get their photos taken with to make them look like astronauts or farmers. This award is given out in Monaco so it's probably overpriced, even if it's missing a human head.
Cricket Is All Hands On Deck For This Trophy
Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralidaran are two of the most celebrated spinners of all time. It's great to celebrate a sport's heroes but their hands featured prominently on this trophy is enough to keep us up late at night.
In this photo Ski Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal and Australian captain Tim Paine pose with the Warne–Muralidaran trophy before a Test match between Australia and Sri Lanka at The Gabba on January 23, 2019.
The Ashes Trophy Is Tiny, Weird, And Celebrated
The Ashes Trophy is said to contain the ashes of a burnt cricket ball and it might be the most important trophy in Australia. The story behind the Ashes Trophy is pretty cool. Tim Paine of Australia is seen in this photo with the Ashes Trophy.
The trophy was originally presented to England cricket captain Ivo Blight during the 1882-1883 tour in Australia. After he died the trophy was willed to the Marlyebone Cricket Club. According to Wikipedia, "The urn has come to be strongly associated with 'The Ashes', the prize for which England and Australia compete in a Test series between the two countries."
This Trophy Isn't Unsettling, Not At All
Jorge Campillo of Spain took home the main price during the Trophee Hassan II at Royal Golf Dar Es-Salam on April 28, 2019. Along with the tournament purse, he was also given the trophy you see in his hands and mouth.
We scoured various golfer's showing off this top prize and it's never not weird and a little bit threatening. With that being said, it's definitely the most useful trophy on our list.
NASCAR Has A Trophy That's Just A Grandfather Clock
Kevin Harvick, driver of the #2 Tide/Kroger Chevrolet is pictured here in March 2012, as he celebrated his win with help from team owner Richard Childress and the grandfather clock.
According to the trophy's story, about six decades ago track promoter Clay Earles was looking for a special and very unique trophy. He looked around Martinsville, a city of 13,000 in the Virginia hills, where he found Ridgeway clocks. The tradition stuck and now NASCAR lays claim to one of the strangest and oddly coolest trophies in professional sports.
